I just remembered this piece of news I saw on Channel 8 last Sunday. The MOST absurd lawsuit, period. Plaintiff Roy Pearson is suing this dry cleaning store ran by a Korean family living in America. So the owners of this particular dry-cleaning business have lost the plaintiff's pair of trousers which led to him filing a suit against them. The store owners did eventually find that pair of trousers, but he's still pressing charges. But what's the catch? Pearson's a lawyer(promoted to a judge). Ridiculous? Not yet, I haven't got to the best part.
So, it's not as simple as losing the trousers. He claimed to have endured "mental suffering, inconvenience and discomfort" because he couldn't wear his favourite suit on his first day of work. He has made used of the oldest and most subtle marketing tool in dry cleaning business - Satisfaction Guaranteed, which he felt gravely unsatisfied.
What made the whole issue farcical was the lawsuit fees amounted to USD$67 MILLION. YES, you didn't see any typo errors. It IS 67 million smackeroos! People over at Fort Lincoln might be treating this like a comedy and laughing it off. But seriously, this is no laughing matter. Come on! This Korean family migrated to America in search of a better life and this is what they get? *shakes head* I don't know if this has anything to do with the racial issues over there, but this is completely horrendous. *angry red sparks shooting out of Kiwi's wand* (Curse them all!)
